It was a very busy day, but I now have three groomed Scottish terriers, changed oil, groceries, and freshly painted nails.

I have a class tomorrow, and then the days will start to spin towards GLLA.

More soon, I promise.

Another Runway

August 16, 2012 Uncategorized  No comments

We are watching another Project Runway, one of their team challenges, which are always entertaining.  It’s always fun to watch the ones that are afraid to assert themselves and end up with something that’s truly horrific, and the ones whose ego outstrips their talent and you end up with something wildly ambitious and unfinished.

It’s also interesting to watch who does throw someone else under the bus, and how.

Sometimes they’re whiny.  We wouldn’t have LOST if SHE could sew faster/design better/wasn’t tacky.

Sometimes they’re bitchy.  So OUR little project would have worked if YOU weren’t so stupid and had such bad taste.  This is usually one of mean queens that appear regularly.

Sometimes they try and be stand-up, which usually isn’t the wisest plan, either...

Project Runway

Now that the Olympics have ceased to consume us, we’re trying to watch some of the things we’ve missed over the last few weeks.  Tonight we were both tired and in the mood for something  relatively mindless, so we picked Project Runway.  We have a few episodes we haven’t watched and slave drew enjoys it as much as I do.  He’s usually, unsurprisingly, more interested in the design while I am more interested in the workmanship.

We had a late dinner and it will be an early bedtime.  Great Lakes is looming closer and closer; we’ll leave a week from tomorrow.  I have errands to run, forms to print, packing to do, oh, and I’m doing a class I have yet to write, which could be an issue.

I’ve got to get the other two dogs groomed, since they’re going with us this year.

I need to start gatheri...

Edgy Topics

August 14, 2012 Uncategorized  2 comments

I’ll be both judging and presenting at South Plains Leatherfest in Dallas in March.  It’s the home of the International Master and slave contest, and the guidelines that they provided in terms of the presentations for which they were looking was that they preferred it be something that we had not presented before, and that “edgy” topics were welcome.

I’ve spent the last month or so speculating on what I might like to do, and they’re due tomorrow.  It’s not really like me to be slow in responding to such things, I have been on the other side too often and know what a pain it is to be waiting on your staff.

Usually, it’s easy for me because I have a standard bio and class list, and I often add classes to it.

I actually throw myself under the bus in a manner of speaking.

I w...

Quiet Monday

August 13, 2012 Uncategorized  No comments

Today was pleasant, and quiet, which I am good with.  I met Carlos, the show director for GLLA and Markos and Christine to talk about GLLA, and that was pleasant, but the rest of the day was uneventful.

And now it’s later than I realized, and I have an early morning, so I’m off to bed shortly.

I’ve said I like poetry.  I don’t know what reminded me of this poem specifically, but I had thought of it lately, and it seems an appropriate place to say goodnight.  When I was a child, one of the poems I have a very clear memory of my mother reciting for me at night was this one:

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (Dutch Lullaby)
by Eugene Field

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe—
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
“Where are you going, and what do you wish...

Meteors as Metaphor

August 12, 2012 Uncategorized  2 comments

As it turned out, the meteors were, for us, a bust.  Too much ambient light, too early in the evening, but both of us had to get up early, so we couldn’t make a 2am run, too.

In any case, what did come to mind is transparency, a concept I like a lot.

I talk about transparency a lot in classes.  I believe that transparency doesn’t run both ways, and in fact, shouldn’t.

Transparency of the submissive to the dominant enhances and enforces the whole concept of the relationship, defines the dynamic.

You will keep nothing hidden from me, no part of you is to be shut away from me.

You will make yourself open and available to me.  That is my expectation, and transparency is one of the tools.

I view transparency in this way: you are not obliged to share every thought that passes through yo...

Meteors and Poetry

August 11, 2012 Uncategorized  No comments

slave drew and I are going to go out in a bit to watch the meteor shower that we’ve been told we do not want to miss.  We’ll get home in a bit, then go to bed, but I feel certain that I’ll have some pithy observation the meteors have brought to mind, but that will wait for tomorrow.

I went to some yard sales this morning, found nothing overtly kinky, but I did find a bag that I think will work nicely to transport toys that are not long and cane-like.

I will tell a funny story, then leave you with a piece of poetry.

The story is, slave drew and I went by a Starbucks near our house on Friday because I wanted the ads for the garage sales and I hate to spend $1 on the paper when I literally only want that single page.

We looked, but there’s no ad section, so we walk out...

Friday Nights

August 10, 2012 Uncategorized  No comments

I like Friday night.

Friday night is more ragtag than Saturday, more slapdash and more honkytonk.

Saturday night is planned, Friday is spontaneous.

On Friday, you’re a little ragged from the week.  Even if you don’t work a “regular” 9-to-5, M-F week, it still feels different.  It’s the pace around you.

You’ve worked all week, waiting for the weekend.  Friday is the time you can goof off and not feel guilty because there’s still the whole weekend ahead.  You can be lazy and feel justified.

Or, if you decide to be productive, work late, do that laundry, run the vacuum, hit the dry cleaner and the grocery on the way home, then you can feel so much MORE virtuous, your tiresome chores done, or at least a real head start on them, and then you can REALLY let loose.

Saturday nights are differe...

Profiles, Redux

August 9, 2012 Uncategorized  6 comments

So, one thing I forgot to mention is the situation where the profile picture does not match the profile.

One of my personal favorites is the Domme (who probably pronounces it “dom-may,” which I cannot abide) who in her profile goes on and on about how dominant she is and what a bitch and a badass she is.  And then her picture shows her on her knees, ass in the air, back to the camera.

Ok, so I’m not naïve, she’s making kiss my ass or lick my ass or worship my ass implications there.  But really?

It just looks submissive and like you really like doggie style.

Which is fine, but I’d actually prefer to see your face before I know your favorite sexual position.

Also, I shouldn’t have to say this, but while your motorcycle or muscle car might be your prized possession, the apple of...

Ignore the Ears

August 8, 2012 Uncategorized  4 comments

This is not my first and likely won’t be my last screed on profile pictures.

I would guess that out of every 100 profile pictures I glance at, I think maybe 25% are good profile pictures.

By good, I don’t mean that they have to be a professionally taken photo with the subject, making them look like a dead ringer for Katy Perry or Charlize Theron, like Brad Pitt or Antonio Banderis.

This is what I mean by “good.”

It should have been taken in the last five years, unless you are, for some reason using a photo of yourself as a child for a limited time.

It should bear some resemblance to you in the real world, meaning if it is a photo of my best friend, for instance, I should be able to recognize it.

It should be reasonably in focus.

In other words, I should be able to identify that it ...
