If I Could Save Time…

I was – still am, for that matter – a big fan of Jim Croce, who wrote some words that I think of often. “There never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do, once you find them.” Isn’t that the truth?
See, I meant to write a longish blog tonight about this bizarre deck of Tarot cards, fraught with both clever word plays and insightful conclusions, perhaps even pulling the same card from all those decks and comparing and contrasting, and then there was the great mouse caper.
Or not so great.
Let’s call it the – so far – the so-so mouse caper.
My littlest Scottie, Bess, is the huntress of the three, though to be fair Belle is pretty deaf and Reigh only has one eye, so the competition isn’t that stiff. Plus they don’t much care, mouses gotta eat, too, yanno.
Anyway, Bess does NOT like mice and she has killed several. They come in through my garage and while I am not infested, it’s not unheard of. In any case, Bess was nosing around and behaving as if she had seen a mouse, and in fact she had, enough so that she chased it and it scampered up some shelves.
I saw this.
slave drew has gone to bed.
I called the Canadian. His job, as you know, is dealing with all things dead, and while the mouse was not technically dead, it is in the category of things I don’t want to deal with and that I get to be a girl about.
He came upstairs and rattled packages and boxes, while I watched. Bess had her nose to the ground, sniffing. He did find it and was trying to capture it in a designated container, but it eluded him, as mice are wont to do.
Belle was watching with a certain perplexed look as if she really didn’t see what all the bother was about. She used to be the hunter, but age has mellowed her.
The mouse made one more appearance, but has now, at least for the moment, decamped to parts unknown. And it’s my bedtime and I didn’t write that insightful and humorous blog I intended, so it will have to be another day, won’t it?
Chalk up another victory for mice.
