The Official End of Birthday Festivities

September 8, 2012 Uncategorized  3 comments

Tonight was a lovely end to a pleasant birthday week.

I had dinner with some of my favorite people: Kenny, Charles and jacki, Josh, Gray. Steve and kim, Shane, Cerrin, Gabe, aisha and her Sir, and Mark and Christine.  We met at a local Chinese restaurant, one I like a lot.

We had a great time, with the conversation ranging from aisha’s lost box to Gabe’s acknowledgement to his doctor that he tests his own pain threshold, recreationally...

Ego

September 7, 2012 Uncategorized  4 comments

I read another blog this morning, Vanilla Mom’s, which you can find here.  It got me thinking about ego, and the differences in ego in gender.

I think the differences in ego have  a lot to do with gender.  ‘nilla describes feeling needy and equates it with being a submissive, and certainly, I think that’s part of it.

But I think part of it, too, is that women are programmed to look to others for our validation.  Certainly, I think that in general submissives are more given to self-doubt than dominants because, well, it’s pretty fucking obvious, right?

But I think in general, when you compare women to men, regardless of their power orientation, it’s true that there are significant gender differences...

Do Android Tablets Dream of Electric Apps?

I have at least three computers that I have primary access too.  I have a desktop, one with tons of memory and lots of disk space.

I took windows seriously when it came out.

I can have bunches of windows open all at the same time?

All righty, then…

I wanna have Firefox open all the time with the dozen or so windows that open each time.

I want Yahoo messenger and ITunes.

I want my Magic Jack and quite possibly at least one Word and/or Excel document, too.

I don’t like to type on small keyboards.  Not really type, like this.  I want my comfortable desk that is the first real piece of furniture slave drew built me.  I want all my needed crap around me, my pens and scissors and san disk cards, and Scottie figurines and perfume and hand lotion and notepads and…

So, I have a relatively new d...

Events Continued

September 5, 2012 Uncategorized  3 comments

I seem to be reminiscing about events, so I’ll keep on.

I’ve talked about Black Rose and SMARTFest and Vicious Valentine – we went to one Malicious Masquerade, run by the same folks as VV, but it just never worked as well for our schedule.  Anything for Love is another event for which I will always have fond memories, too.

AFL was in Covington, just over the border from Cincinnati, at some hotel that just loved us.  After a while you stay in so many hotels that you don’t remember which hotel is which, so I don’t remember if it’s a Ramada or a Clarion or Marriott, whatever.

AFL was one of the earliest events I know of that was held regularly.  I think they ran about ten years all told and I was at most of them...

The Last Night of My Year

September 4, 2012 Uncategorized  7 comments

It’s the last night of my year because tomorrow is my birthday.  I’ll have officially completed 54 full years and embark on the 55th.

I’m ok with the number mostly.  I don’t love it but it is what it is and there’s no point letting it worry me.

The gardens have gone wild – as much as I swear in June I’m going to keep up with weeding, by September I have officially resigned myself.  The morning glories are climbing on everything, but they are glorious.

The cockscomb has gone mad, and even if I had the heart to tear up those gaudy blooms, the bees have discovered it and are virtually drunken in their buzzing from bloom to bloom.

One white cockscomb is pushing up through the seat of a wrought iron bench...

Harvard, Not the College

The friend whose bird was at the wedding I blogged about on July 5 got me the picture of him, and I wanted to post it.
This is Harvard, the rainbow-hued scarlet macaw.

Labor Day

September 3, 2012 Uncategorized  2 comments

Another rainy day, though slave drew and I went out on the scooter for quite a bit in the middle of the day.  It was very pleasant then, and we ran a couple of errands and looked at jewelry for a birthday present.

drew often buys me jewelry for gifts, and I like that.  I like that kind of thing, anyway, because I like wearing things that remind me of people, and he has had the taste which best suits me of anyone other than Beth, my ex-girlfriend.

I like things that are unique, and not too girly, but feminine.  I’m also short and plump and have a lot of cleavage, so things that are too big or too architectural – big stone disks on a thong, for instance – look silly.  I have basically no neck so I can’t wear long earrings.  I like bracelets and rings, but those tend to be harder to find...

Damp Sunday

It has rained all day, on and off.  Our share of the storms in the gulf lately, I assume, and it’s not rained hard, at least not where I am.  Just constantly drippy, from the heavens or the tree branches, one or the other.

So a week ago I was just getting home from GLLA.  I was so tired I could hardly manage the stairs awake, but really glad at how well it had gone.  I had more fun this year than I have in years.

drew was not with me the last two years, and that’s part of it, I always have more fun when he’s around, despite the fact he can be a monumental pain in the ass, but that’s part of the appeal, too.  He also knows me so well that he needs little guidance...

Labor Day Munch

September 1, 2012 Uncategorized  2 comments

Tonight was the Saturday munch, a very crowded and warm one.  Andee, who was actually at the very first munch, was there.  I haven’t seen her in a doaen years, anyway.

I talked to my pals Josh and Cerrin, mostly, and Charles and jacki.  slave drew went and was in his usual slightly manic form.  He was quite funny.

It’s Labor Day weekend.  It rained here off and on much of the day, but this evening driving home was lovely.  It was cool and the air smelled sweet from the rain.  My birthday is this week, and since the September munch is so close to the actual anniversary in October, this seems like it’s always a munch that puts me in a more reflective mood.

When I founded the munches, I wanted a place where people could find a community...
