I’ve been absent and silent here, but not because I was loafing around, eating bon-bons and catching up on my new season of Sherlock. There has been, in fact, an appalling lack of loafing and bon-bon consumption for the last few months.
I was in San Jose last month, at IMsBB / IMsL, watching one of my titleholders step down from her year as International Ms Bootblack. Many of you who might read this probably know her, or at least know of her. She won the Bluegrass Leather Pride Bootblack title in March of 2015, then won Great Lakes Bootblack in October of 2015, then won the International title in April of 2016.
I’d gone out to see her compete and win, and to visit a friend as well...Read More
Probably the hardest thing to do is show someone else your truest face, the real you, the one without the lipstick and makeup, prettied up for company.
One of the things I most value about kink relationships is that very thing. Being able to how someone the parts of your personality that are not always thought of as positives, and having them accept it.
The reasons to come out are as varied as the things revealed. I know that for me, when I come out to someone, one of the biggest reasons is that I’m not great at compartmentalization, either in my personality and my life. I am what I am.
For instance, no one I told I was a dominatrix ever said, “Wow! Seriously? I’d never have guessed.”
Usually it’s more in the vein of “You know, this explains a LOT…”
I come out, too, because I f...Read More
Calendars are a very tidy way of marking time, all nicely divided into equal seconds and minutes and hours, with an extra day thrown in once every four years to make sure it all REALLY comes out even.
People, however, are rarely tidy in their habits, not as a whole, or often even individually, so we don’t remember those equal measures of time quite so out so equally and tidily.
What we use to count out time, to measure it out in front of us or remind us of when it was meted out in the past are the incidents, the celebrations, the gains and losses, or the routines leading up to them. Sometimes it’s big and uncommon things, or experiences we either share, or can relate to.
“Did it happen before or after we moved out of the apartment, or before Joe and Sheila divorced?” “Well, I know that ...Read More
It was a busy, albeit fun, weekend.
On Friday night we were in the Gay Pride Parade, on our Leather Pride “float.”
Our Leather Pride float was the truck belonging to my current Master and slave couple, Steve and kim, with their car trailer attached.
We used bungee cords to secure camp folding chairs back to back down the middle, about a dozen of them. People rode in the back of the truck, too. We had a Fringe Elements banner, and signs for Bluegrass Leather Pride, and a Leather Pride flag.
We also had scented bubbles and cans of silly string.
We met in a lot behind one of the local gay bars, and waited for a bit, then moved into the sort of pre-staging area, which worked out really well for us because it was a very sunny day and could have been unpleasantly hot, but we were under an ov...Read More
I am SO freaking happy to announce that I finally have my blog up on my own domain, something that has been on my agenda for a couple of months.
If you’re reading this on MsConstanceExplains at WordPress, well, I’m still very glad to have you.
However, if you’re reading this on my own domain, at MsConstanceExplains.com, well then, I’m even more glad to have you.
To give credit where credit is more than due, I had little to do with this.
My good friend Charles did the migration for me. I had tried and played at it a few times, but just never got it to work. I was worried I’d lose everything because I’m not that much of a tech person. I had spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out, and a month kind of playing at it.
I gave Charles the information last night, and he had it done b...Read More
We had one of the titleholder preps we do in Louisville tonight. We do preparations for people planning to run for titles and tonight we had five potential contestants and seven or eight of us who were working with them, asking questions, giving feedback on the questions that were being given and the way they were given.
We talked about why they wanted to hold the titles for which they were running, what they thought they brought to the table that other contestants might not, what part spirituality played in their Leather lives, why they were running for the title they were running for.
It’s always interesting to hear how people answer those questions, and I’m generally pleased with where we are. We have more work, but things are going well.
Then we had the Sunday munch after, and that...Read More
We had a Fringe Board meeting tonight, which takes both time and energy.
The good news is, however, that I finally took down the Christmas tree in preparation.
Now, to be fair, I hadn’t done a tone of decorating for Christmas. A small Christmas tree with Scottie ornaments, a few things set out, not a lot. I was not living in Santa’s workshop or anything, but it is the 22nd of January, it was time to take it all down and put it away.
I’ve got things to do on Bluegrass Leather Pride, which I will do some work on tomorrow and the day after.
I seriously need to respond to comments, and that’s on my agenda.
And after 20 minutes, this is all I have, so I think I should just accept that I haven’t much to say tonight.
Tomorrow I feel sure I’ll be more talkative.Read More
So we had our SIG meeting this afternoon and the topic, which had been requested in our topic listing, was Leather History.
I did a bit of prep for the meeting, which included going through the Leather Archives and Museum Leather History Timeline. If you’re interested you can find that here.
I pulled out items that I thought were particularly interesting from that time line:
1954: Satyrs MC founded in Los Angeles, the first gay motorcycle club.
1955, Sept. 21: The Daughters of Bilitis, the first Lesbian organization in America, is formed in San Francisco.
1958: Oedipus MC founded in Los Angeles, the second gay motorcycle club.
1958, June: Chuck Renslow becomes manager of The Gold Coast in Chicago and creates the first Leather Bar.
1960, March 16: The Gold Coast...Read More
We did our first Titleholder Preparation for the new year tonight.
We met at the local pizza joint where we’ve been doing munches for 15 years. They give the basement over to us, and generally let us do pretty much whatever we want to do.
We had four people who are planning to run for my titles, and a couple that are preparing for international contests.
We talked about what good reasons are to run for a title, because you think you have something to say, because you want a platform, because you want to serve your community.
We talked about issues to consider like, can you afford to run for a title financially, can you afford it in terms of the time you have available, can your relationships afford it?
We talked about recognizing that running for a title almost always leads to at least s...Read More
My day has been pleasantly quiet, generally.
I had a late breakfast with a submissive male who is a friend, too, and is always interesting. We chatted about art, about the current political debates, and compartmentalization in our respective lives.
After that, I came home and spent the rest of the afternoon going through email, answering emails in my normal account and my Fetlife account, making some reservations for upcoming events, and working on my Bluegrass Leather Pride contest.
Then I joined a group of friends to celebrate a birthday, which was fun.
Working on Bluegrass Leather and some on Great Lakes Leather Alliance is going to be my day tomorrow, too, and I hope to have many of the details ironed out tomorrow.
This is, then, going to be short and not that exciting, because I nee...Read More
