Tonight slave drew and I had dinner with aisha and her Sir, and that was lovely. Dinner was fabulous, surpassed only by the conversation, and now we are home again.
I have goals for the next few days in particular. I need to get my kitchen and dining room back in order after the festivities of the holidays. I have a return or two to handle.
I have 89 unread messages in my inbox, and another 20 that are read but not responded to. I need to go through that and get that cleaned up.

So, today was the first day of 2013, and I made a good start to it, and I am happy about that.
slave drew and I had some left over lasagne I made last night, which was quite good. We also realized that between about 4pm and 8pm, he ate:
Two veggie dogs with bread.
His LARGE serving of lasagne, and about a third of my more reasonable portion.
A good sized salad.
Five muffins. Yes, that’s right, five. These were not little gem muffins, these were full-size muffins I made this evening, and they were pretty good.
So, I fed slave drew, which is not a small thing.
I uploaded some photos for drew to his Facebook account.

Eventually, I will have time to respond to comments. Maybe have time to leave a few of my own.
Eventually, I will tell you what the mother of the children who were the object of my Santa Run said.
Eventually, I’ll post pictures of the rope rug and the peacock feather fan and the glass sculpture from Christmas.
Eventually, I’ll have time to find that story about the cat named Stiletto.
Eventually, I’ll talk about kink again.
Eventually, I’ll respond to the 47 emails I’ve ignored and finalize my class list and update my online calendar.
Eventually, I’ll clean off my desk and clean out my hall closet and vacuum under the sofa.
Eventually, I’ll write my last three Christmas cards that are clearly now holiday cards.
Eventually, I’ll get the wrap and bows and tags back to the basement.
So, it is the night before Christmas.
slave drew got home from his lake house, I made dinner for us tonight – pasta with salad and rolls – and also a Mediterranean Fish Casserole and Orzo Pilaf for tomorrow’s meal with friends. I’ll make a pumpkin pie during the day tomorrow.
drew opened one of his gifts from me, a book on insects. If you know slave drew, you know the thing he likes the most is information. He’ll pour over it and in six weeks know more than is really appropriate about insects.
The puppies got to open one of their presents, some greenie bones. They have a couple more gifts under the tree for tomorrow, but if I told what they were and the puppies happened to read my blog, then the surprise would be ruined.

I had a productive Saturday, if not a very exciting one, but that’s not always bad. I had no pressing need to leave the house, and other than going to the mailbox, I didn’t.
I did a lot of calendar-related things today.
I put up the subjects for the Special Interest Groups for the upcoming year. I’d created the events, but hadn’t added the topics and the questions, which I like to have done before January.
I scheduled Titleholder Preparations, where we will invite people who are running or thinking about running for a leather title to attend and be asked questions, have an opportunity to practice speeches and/or presentations with feedback and support.

It seems like if they were so fucking smart, they’d not have been so welcoming to the Spaniards, but I’m a cynic.
So, is tomorrow the end of the world?
I doubt it. Highly. And if it is the end of the world, clearly, I can do nothing about it.
Robert Frost said this, in Fire and Ice, about the end of the world:

Yesterday was an interesting day. In addition to my Santa run, it was also the Great Squirrel Adventure.
About 9am I heard SOMETHING in the garage. A big thunk. An alarmingly big thunk.
I went and looked, but saw nothing.
Ten or 15 minutes later, there was another. Not as big, but still…
slave drew was out and about, but I called him.
He came home, looked around, saw nothing, and headed out to do his errands again.
About 20 minutes later, I start hearing something. In the fireplace itself. Not the chimney, the fireplace.
I texted drew this time.
“There is absolutely something in the fireplace.”
“I can hear it moving.”
“In the fireplace of just up the chimney.”
“I can hear it clearly.”

So, it had come to my attention lately that someone I didn’t know particularly well was not going to be able to provide much Christmas for the five children, all under ten, in their household, due to reasons of bad luck and bad health.
Four of the children are theirs, one is the daughter of a recently-killed friend, who, along with her father, is also living with them for lack of another option.
I recognize that there are others out there in worse or similar situations, but these came to my attention.
My own father died when I was quite small, and I am very acquainted with being a child who gets few presents for Christmas, and practical ones at that. New pajamas because they were needed, new socks because they were needed.

I got a fortune cookie a month or so ago and I’ve had the fortune sitting on my desk since then.
It says, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this planet.”
Now, is that a perfect fortune for me, or what?
I like service and I appreciate it. I also like that service has a sort of intimacy about it.
Serving well requires knowing the person you are serving, their likes and dislikes, what they do and do not like.
Serving haphazardly can be more annoying than anything else.
For instance, I don’t drink coffee.
I won’t eat food that has a mocha flavor to it.
I dislike it pretty intensely, to a point that even the smell of it, particularly if it’s strong, will make me a little ill.
